2020 marks the 250th anniversary of the year of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. We celebrate his genius as a musical ground-breaker and one of the most influential musicians in history, along with another musical titan of his time, Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich. During their lives, both composers’ works represent the struggle of the individual against external forces - of time, oppression, war and fate. The concert finishes with the sublime lullaby of the Andante from Franz Schubert’s PianoTrio in B flat major.
